The Gareth Giles Award
Seasoned interscholastic athletics expert Eric McCurdy serves the Seattle Public Schools. Eric McCurdy also served the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) as a member of the executive board. In 2018, he was the recipient of the WIAA’s Gareth Giles Award.
WIAA, through the Representative Assembly, gives the Gareth Giles Award to individuals who served the ideals and purposes of the Representative Assembly, and have demonstrated leadership and dedication to all the member schools and students of Gareth Giles. On the second Friday of January each year, the Representative Assembly, through the executive board, accepts and verifies nominations. Awardees are then selected from the list of verified nominees. The Gareth Giles Award is given in March at the Winter Coalition in Renton, Washington.
To be nominated for the Gareth Giles Award, the candidate should have served WIAA’s Representative Assembly for at least five years at the time of the nomination as a member, board member, or special committee member. He or she should have led in WIAA’s legislative process and served in rendering the positive resolution of problems. The nominee should be dedicated and loyal to WIAA and consistent in promoting the purposes of WIAA.
